Terms
Last updated: 1 September 2026 · Plain-English, no buried legalese.
No guarantees, provided "as is"
OpenTrailer™ is open-source software provided as is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We build it in good faith and genuinely try to make it the best it can be, but we can't promise it will be bug-free, always available, or fit for your specific business.
To the fullest extent allowed by law, we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of the software, including lost or corrupted data, lost bookings, downtime, or lost revenue. You use it at your own risk, and you're responsible for your own backups and for testing that it fits your needs before you rely on it. If something outside our control goes wrong, there may be nothing we can do to recover it, that's the nature of self-hosted, open-source software.
This mirrors the "Disclaimer of Warranty" and "Limitation of Liability" in the GNU AGPL-3.0 (sections 15 and 16), which governs the Community edition.
The Community edition (free & open source)
The Community core is licensed under the GNU AGPL-3.0. You're free to run, study, modify, and share it under that license, including the requirement to make your modified source available to your users if you offer it over a network. The full license text ships with the code.
Pro plugins (paid)
Pro plugins are separate, proprietary software licensed for use, not sold outright and not open source. A Pro license is tied to your use for its term. Please don't redistribute, resell, or share Pro plugin code or license keys. Pro plugins are what fund ongoing maintenance and keep the free core alive.
Pricing and plugin availability are still being finalized during the beta and may change. Beta licensees receive preferential pricing.
The beta & the shared demo
This is a real beta: expect bugs and rough edges. The shared demo at demo.opentrailer.org is a multi-tenant playground, other testers can see and change data in it, and it may be reset at any time. Don't put anything there you need to keep. Access may be paused or cleaned up (with a heads-up first) if an account sits unused.
Acceptable use
- Don't use OpenTrailer™ or the demo for anything illegal, or to abuse, attack, or overload the service.
- Don't attempt to break into other tenants' data or the underlying servers.
- Don't misrepresent the software as your own proprietary product in violation of the AGPL-3.0 license.
Trademarks
"OpenTrailer™" is a trademark of the project. The AGPL-3.0 license covers the code, not the name: you're free to fork, modify, and run the software, but please don't use the OpenTrailer™ name or logo in a way that suggests your version, product, or service is ours or endorsed by us.
Placeholder: the formal trademark terms are being finalized with counsel and this section will be replaced when they're ready. Until then, the paragraph above is a plain-English summary of intent, not legal advice and not the final license language.
Your data & your responsibility
When you self-host, your data lives on your server, it's yours, and backing it up is your responsibility. We never access your self-hosted data. For anything you enter on the shared demo, treat it as temporary.
Changes
We're actively building, so these terms may change as the product does. When something material changes, we'll update the date at the top. Questions? Just ask, nothing here is meant to trap you.
